Montgomery Junior School
I would like to extend a warm welcome to you from all the staff and children of Montgomery Junior School.
Ours is a school with its own unique context. Due to our proximity to Colchester Garrison approximately 65% of the children attending the school have one or more parent employed within the British Armed Forces. The school staff understand the implications this can have for the children and their families, particularly in periods of increased stress. Ofsted (November 2010) recognised the quality of care we provide and graded this as outstanding. We also warmly welcome pupils and their families from outside the military community and find that our children integrate seamlessly.
Over the past few years we have worked hard to introduce and embed simple yet effective systems across the school. The Assertive Mentoring methodology is central to our ethos which promotes high standards in a caring and happy environment. Behaviour in the school is good and we have high expectations of all pupils in terms of the attitude they display and the effort they make with their work.
The recent introduction of our revised curriculum, based around themes, has been hugely successful in providing children with exciting, fun and meaningful learning experiences. This, matched with a relentless focus on the teaching of reading, writing and mathematics, gives the children who attend our school every opportunity to succeed and achieve high standards.
In 2010, Ofsted concluded that “Pupils thoroughly enjoy attending Montgomery, which is a good and improving school”. We believed this to be true then, and still do.
